There is a place in Northumberland where

the Roman Dere Street crosses the

Eighteenth Century Lead Road.

Over the centuries many have passed through here

one way and another.


I lived here long enough for it to begin

to reveal its many layers to me.


When you are at the crossroads, you too might

see the shadows and hear the murmuring

of everything and everyone

nothing and no one...
