Artists in full flow!

Following the Summer shut down of Hedworthfield CA, the next meeting of The Artists’ Garret is on 16th September.  All our members are now working towards illustrating two publications.

One publication is a book of children’s poetry and we have been learning the art of line drawing and how illustrations can compliment poetry.

The other publication is our forthcoming booklet about rediscovered parts of South Tyneside.  So far the book is set to have information and drawings featuring the history of the Greyhound pub at Hedworth, smugglers at the coat, the Tyne ferries, the TocH building at Westoe and much more.

We are busy producing drawings for the books and also paintings for a display to be used at the launch of the publications.

Anyone interested in joining the group is very welcome.  Beginners or more experience, we are confident that you will enjoy it!

A Colouful Evening

Members of The Artists’ Garret were delighted by the recent visit of artist Eric Larmont to the group on 22nd July.  Eric devoted his session to a fascinating and practical demonstration of how painters mix and use colour.  The enthusiasm which Eric brought to his subject was contagious and everyone present agreed that this was a most useful and informative session.  It is hoped that Eric will find time to come back to the group again in the near future.

Still Room For A Couple Of Members

wantsyou.jpgA couple of new members are still sought to form, mould and take part in The Artists’ Garret. A different kind of visual arts group in South Tyneside.  The next session is will take place on Tuesday 22nd July 2008, between 6.30 - 8.30pm at Hedworthfield Community Association in Fellgate, Jarrow.

The group will suit anyone wishing to develop an interest in painting, drawing and illustration. The meetings are an informal and friendly way to associate with others who have artistic interests and also to get involved in exciting activities and projects.

This week The Artist’s Garret will welcome artist Eric Larmont.  Eric is a widely exhibited artist, including Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions and is in the Who’s Who in Art. More about Eric Larmont at www.larmalone.co.uk

The work of The Artist’s Garret includes workshops on a variety of drawing and painting techniques, although the emphasis is on members being open to new ideas and exploring their individual potential.

Members are currently engaged in illustrating children’s poetry and producing a booklet on the theme of local heritage.

The pace of activities is always appropriate to the group members, whether beginners or more experienced.

To add even more interest, members of The Artists Garret also have the opportunity to look at the work of other artists working now and in the past.  This leads to some vibrant discussions and insightful practical activities.

Awards for AllThe Artists Garret is a long-term project and there is room for everyone to progress and grow in confidence through time. Although the sessions are informal, members will always be working towards exciting outcomes.  Whether an exhibition of members’ work, producing illustrations for a publication, whatever the members decide, the Artists Garret is there for participants to express themselves verbally and visually.”

The first two meetings of the Garret are free. Following that there is a fee of £3 per member, per session.  For further information telephone (0191) 4208601.
