The Low Simonside Art Workshops
The Low Simonside Art Workshops
The
‘Low Simonside Art Workshops’ is led by Barry
Hall and Ian Milne and sets out to be a different kind of art group. We
meet weekly as section of Low Simonside Community Association, Taunton Avenue,
Jarrow. Our members meet weekly to share skills, ideas and opinions and above
all to progress our own work.
The
group is friendly and hardworking, everyone is at different levels of ability
and has varied interests in art. Most sessions will find people busily engaged
in their own projects and developing their own style and approach to their
work.
We
have regular visits from guest artists and do a range of drawing and painting
exercises throughout the year. In the summer months, outdoor sessions have
proved very enjoyable and productive, for example our visits to St Paul’s
church and monastic site.
There
are always ongoing projects for members to get involved in if they wish. Currently
we are working on a series of illustrated local heritage leaflets and also
a large canvas depicting local scenes through history. And we have an exhibition
of members work planned for the future.
It’s
true that our deliberately informal approach may not suit everyone, but if
you have a genuine and self motivated passion for your art and want to see
how far you can push yourself, then we would like you to join us!
Annual
centre membership £5
Weekly session fees £3
