Arts Advance is a voluntary community group based in Jarrow. We are dedicated to running small high quality projects, which engage the community in creative activities such as writing, drama and visual art. Everyone involved with Arts Advance contributes their time and skills voluntarily. To put it another way – we do it because we enjoy it!
The nine Arts Advance projects so far: -
Low
Simonside Art Workshop. Meets weekly on Thursday evenings at Low Simonside
Community Association in Jarrow. Open to anyone with a budding interest in
painting and drawing.
The sessions usually involve studio skills, such as drawing and painting,
a look at art history and members are engaged in a range of personal projects.

Five Times - A small project with big ideas and fascinating contributions from Ricky Tomlinson, Tony Robinson, Mollie Sugden, Dame Cleo Laine and many others.
The Arts Advance Writers Group – A small and friendly and group led by Ann Alexander and publishing through the Arts Advance Press.
Words from the Wise – We collected and preserved the living memories of the people of Jarrow and Hebburn and sealed them all into a time capsule for 100 years.
On the Cards - A Mail Art project, calling on artists all over the world to answer one simple question.
Observing Buildings - Artists and writers chronicling some fascinating local buildings, from a personal perspective.
Blueprints for Writing – Encouraging writers, new and old to explore rhyme and rhythm.
Write Up Your Street – Looking at the stories behind some of South Tyneside’s streets and street names.
